CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One robber is in the hospital and another is on the loose after police said they targeted a southeast Charlotte arcade that ended in a shootout between them and a security guard.
The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the AIA Arcade in the Independence Shopping Center off Independence Boulevard.
Officers said at least one of the robbers was armed when they robbed the business at gunpoint. When they tried to leave, a security guard started shooting, striking one of the suspects.
Police said the robbers fired back, but the guard was not hurt.

The suspect that was shot was dropped off at the hospital but is expected to be OK.
No names have been released, but CMPD posted images of the suspects and they are working to identify them.
This isn't the first time Channel 9 has covered a shooting involving an armed security guard.
In March, a guard at the State Employees Credit Union on University City Boulevard fired 16 shots during an armed robbery.
He didn’t hit anyone -- or anything for that matter -- but since then the state has shut down the private security company he worked for.
Calloway Security's professional board found that the guard didn’t meet its training standards.
Police experts told Channel 9 the problem is training in the security guard industry -- armed guards receive significantly less training than armed police.
CMPD said it is still working to determine the circumstances surrounding Thursday night's shooting.
