Reward being offered for information in NC shooting that killed two, including Statesville woman

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers unit is offering a cash reward for information in a double homicide in Greensboro that claimed the lives of two, including a 19-year-old Statesville woman.

Officers responded just before midnight to Circle Drive near East Bessemer Avenue Tuesday night. At the scene, officers found two people who had been shot. Four other shooting victims later showed up at a nearby hospital.

Police confirmed two of the people who were shot died. Family members told Channel 9 that one of the victims who died, Kaneycha Turner, of Statesville, was a freshman student at North Carolina A&T University. WXLV reported that the other victim was 15-year-old Ronaldlee Snipes.

Andrea Austin said that she and Turner were best friends and roommates.

“We loved each other deeply,” Austin said. “We always did everything together. It was just all of us.”

They didn’t know there was a block party at the apartments where they stopped for a quick bathroom break before going to campus.

“I used the restroom came right back out and once I sat down, I was in the car reaching for my food,” Austin said. “It was by her legs. I was already low in a way. Next thing you know, it was 15 shots going off.”

The two young women were in the car by themselves. Their other friends were in an apartment.

“I didn’t realize my car was being shot at until I felt the glass spreading on my face,” Austin said.

She believes Turner got out of the car to try and run for cover and was hit by crossfire.

“I had went over there to her body,” Austin said. “It’s like, she going to get up. She laying on her stomach and I had moved her hair back. I seen her eyes were still open. I seen the blood on her face. Her neck was so swollen.”

Turner’s family said the round cut an artery in her neck. Turner died at the scene.

Turner was a sophomore who studied business and worked two jobs to help support herself.

Some of her friends and classmates gathered Friday night for a balloon release.

Police have not made an arrest.

Anyone who calls Crime Stoppers with information may be eligible for a reward up to $5,000 in cash.
