Revamp begins on uptown Charlotte park renamed for Hugh McColl

CHARLOTTE — One of the lead fundraisers for an uptown Charlotte park that will be named for retired bank executive Hugh McColl Jr. says that a $10 million fundraising campaign to pay for the park and future maintenance is on target.

Malcomb Coley, Charlotte managing partner and central region private leader at EY, told CBJ this week, “We’re off to a good start. It’s still preliminary (to disclose specific figures).”

Coley provided an update on fundraising as city government this week begins deconstructing Thomas Polk Park, the one-third-acre park at Trade and Tryon streets that will be revitalized and renamed in McColl’s honor. City Council approved the privately funded makeover and name change in March.
