CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A range of rezoning petitions were given the stamp of approval by Charlotte City Council on Monday night.

One of the more significant projects approved will allow an overhaul of a dated, suburban-style shopping center in University City into a dense, mixed-use development that will bring new office space to the submarket — something that hasn’t been done in a decade, developer EB Arrow says.
That project, Waters Edge at University Place, will include a five-story, 182,000-square-foot building with office and retail space and, potentially, a library and 308 apartments by Crescent Communities in the first phase, in addition to renovations to the project’s lakefront park and walking trails. The 20.6-acre site is on J.W. Clay Boulevard, near a Lynx Blue Line station.
Waters Edge will be developed on part of the two retail centers that EB Arrow acquired last year for about $18.2 million. The big-box stores at the site pegged for redevelopment would likely move to the other portion of the retail center, EB Arrow previously said.
