Restaurants support Charlotte’s Communities In Schools with proceeds on Tuesday

CHARLOTTE — The community has an opportunity to support a Charlotte nonprofit’s efforts empowering local students.

Communities In Schools helps more than 4,000 students across 54 schools in Mecklenburg County. It assisted 96% of seniors graduate high school or receive a GED in the 2020-2021 school year.

Kaytlyn Goldson graduated this spring from East Mecklenburg High School with a long list of accomplishments. She credits Community in Schools for offering the tutoring, mentorship and emotional support she needed to succeed.

Carlea Atkinson, the Communities In Schools staff member helping Goldson “took her role way beyond her office, way beyond what was listed in her job requirements,” Goldson said.

On Tuesday, more than 60 restaurants will come together to support Communities In Schools’ mission.

A portion of any purchase at the participating businesses will be donated to fund the local program.
