CHARLOTTE — A new uptown eatery, plans for two more South End breweries and upcoming expansions by a pair of local restaurant brands were among the top news in Charlotte’s food and beverage scene last month.
Mariposa, which dishes up tastes from around the globe, is one of several concepts that debuted locally in October, replacing Halcyon at 500 S. Tryon St. in uptown’s Mint Museum. Mother Earth Group operates Mariposa as it also did Halcyon.
And expect Charlotte’s craft-beer options to keep growing in South End. Asheville’s Hi-Wire Brewing and Texas-based Weathered Souls Brewing Co. announced last month separate plans to add operations in the booming Charlotte neighborhood south of uptown. Hi-Wire is taking a spot at 330 W. Tremont Ave. for its Charlotte brewery and taproom, while Weathered Souls is leasing a 10,000-square-foot space farther south at 255 Clanton Road.
Meanwhile, popular burger concept Moo & Brew is targeting Matthews for its second restaurant in the local market, and New York-style deli The Good Wurst Co. has signed a deal for space at the new Vantage South End development.
That comes as restaurateurs Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown will close longtime establishment Crepe Cellar in NoDa to bring a new Italian eatery there and as plans for a brick-and-mortar location near uptown for Jewish deli Meshugganah were put on hold.
