Resources available for mental health of first responders and medical workers

CHARLOTTE — There’s increasing concern of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the mental health of first responders and medical professionals, and there’s a lot being done to help support them.

Atrium Health is offering a host of resources to support their employees’ mental health from virtual support groups and confidential virtual visits with psychiatrists and psychotherapists to daily mindfulness meditation sessions.

There’s also the Atrium Health Behavioral Health Call Center, which is open to entire community. It’s staffed with licensed professionals 24/7.

Right now, the call volume is up 10%. The numbers are 704-444-2400 and 800-418-2065.

Chaplains at Atrium Health are providing spiritual care for employees through morning prayer, inspiration meetings and meditation guidance. The chaplains also are continuing their Code Lavender program, which is designed to provide compassionate care and assistance to those dealing with the emotional trauma of COVID-19.

Presbyterian Psychological Services is offering three free sessions for health care workers. The number to learn more is 704-554-9900.

The Red Cross is offering Mental Health First aid classes for free.
