Man taken into custody after 4-hour standoff near Concord Mills

CONCORD, N.C. — A man who barricaded himself inside a unit at the Bexley Village apartments Wednesday night on Blue Sky Drive was taken into custody peacefully, Concord police said.

The four-hour-long standoff ended around midnight.

Prior to that, authorities urged residents to stay inside as they coaxed the man to surrender.

There was a heavy police presence in the area of Thunder Road, which is near Concord Mills. Drivers were asked to seek an alternate route, police tweeted at about 9 p.m.

The massive police response shut down the Bexley Village Apartment complex.

Police responded to a domestic situation around 8 p.m. and there were reports of shots fired by the man inside the apartment.

About 20 people, who were inside a nearby creamery, said they heard multiple gunshots coming from the apartment complex.

“We started hearing boom, boom, boom, and I looked up at the other woman and said, ‘Is that thunder?’" witness Tieyenna Maxwell said.

She said the group was afraid to leave and hid in the back of the shop for a while before eventually leaving.

The complex was blocked off by police for much of the night.

Police said they arrested Josh Pressley for firing shots into the building. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation and police said he could face more charges.
