CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are adding extra patrols in north Charlotte after a man broke into a woman's home and made frightening, sexual commands.

Women in the Peach Tree neighborhood have been on high alert since June when two women nearby reported peeping Toms.

Tanisha Hampton shuddered, hearing that her neighbor told police a strange man broke into her home at 2 a.m. Friday and made disturbing comments.

“This is like really weird and creepy,” Hampton said.

Police would not give details, but a source familiar with the case said the man told the victim he wanted to see her private parts.

“To be in the house by yourself and have that happen? I can only imagine,” Hampton said.

Investigators said the victim, a woman in her 60s, defended herself with a chemical irritant, like bug spray, and the intruder ran off.

“It is just really terrifying, especially because I have two daughters,” Hampton said.

Residents have faced this type of scare before.

“We had a couple of peeping Toms last year that were going around the neighborhood doing things like that,” neighbor Angel Wilkes said.

In June, a woman on Slater Ridge Drive told police she woke up to an intruder in her bedroom. An hour later, on Grass Run Court, a woman reported a man staring through her window, and another peeping Tom was reported on Gold Nugget Court, all within 2 to 3 miles of each other.

Concerned families have since formed a neighborhood watch.
