CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As bullets pierced through a north Charlotte neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, a neighbor’s surveillance cameras captured the crippling sound and the suspected drive-by shooter releasing gunfire.

“There were 13 gunshots total when they drove from one end of the neighborhood to the other just shooting randomly at houses,” a neighbor said. “It just kept getting louder and louder and louder as they drove past the house.”

Residents living on Brownestone View Drive said they feel terrorized. Many didn't see the damage in their neighborhood until Friday afternoon.

“I'm very scared now. I'm lost for words,” said Erin Swain, who heard the gunshots.

“That is frightening to see that,” said Dave Roberts, whose home was hit by bullets.

A resident showed Channel 9 bullet holes above a home's garage and more than one on their storage unit. No one was struck by a bullet.

“My son was downstairs. He ran upstairs. He was, like, ‘What in the world was that?’" Swain said. “It's crazy that you don't have any type of care for anyone's life going up and down the road. You're just shooting?"

Channel 9 cameras captured officers take reports from victims.

Neighbors are hoping the shooters will be caught quickly.

“They have no idea what's behind the walls,” a neighbor said. “They have no idea what they're shooting at. Obviously, they don't care."

Neighbors said they plan to ask the homeowners association for an officer to permanently patrol the area.
