Body of missing boater pulled from Lake Norman

CORNELIUS, N.C. — The body of a missing boater was recovered Sunday afternoon on Lake Norman, according to Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue.

Authorities responded to the area of Staghorn Court in Cornelius around 8:30 p.m. Friday for reports of a missing person.

A source told Channel 9 that a person was being pulled on a tube behind a rental boat, fell in the water and didn’t come back up. They said the person was not wearing a life jacket.

Crews stopped searching at 3 p.m. Saturday after looking for seven hours that morning. Officials said they paused the search because of boat traffic and high waves in the area.

Rescue crews resumed the search Sunday at 7 a.m. and the man’s body was found around 12:52 p.m. The boater’s identity has not been released.

Officials said a tow fish sonar and an underwater remotely operated vehicle were used to complete the search.
