SOUTH CAROLINA — Moving the Carolina Panthers' practice facility could bring South Carolina nearly $3.8 billion, but that reportedly was not enough to sway the state senator holding up the deal, according to our news partner the Charlotte Business Journal.
The state said moving the Panthers headquarters to York County could bring in $3.78 billion over 15 years and create 5,700 indirect jobs in areas like construction, restaurants, retail, and hotels that would follow.
They compiled this analysis after Senator Dick Harpootlian put a hold on legislation that would give the Panthers about $107 million in tax breaks.
He said he wanted more proof that the move will make a positive impact on the state.
Harpootlian told our partners at the Charlotte Business Journal the impact report did nothing to change his belief that the state and the Panthers have given too little information about the project.
He said he needs even more information to take his hold off the bill.
If the bill does pass, sources said the team is looking at a large wooded site that borders Interstate 77, Eden Terrace and Anderson Road in Rock Hill.
