CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Reports of shots fired during an event at a north Charlotte church triggered a massive police response late Sunday night.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at Freedom House Church on Salome Church Road.

According to CMPD, that officer was told that shots were also being fired inside the church.

Dozens of officers responded to the scene but investigators determined no shots were actually fired inside the church and that nobody was hurt.

Officials said officers searched the area and the church evacuated everyone, but there was no evidence shots were fired.

Police said officers in the University Division will continue to patrol the area for any suspicious activity.

No other information has been released.
