ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Officials in Jackson County arrested a man Friday in connection with a Craigslist post threatening to shoot and kill a police officer, according to a news release.

On Thursday night, a post was made in the rants section of Craiglist for the Asheville area stating a shooting would happen and to tune in to WLOS for more information. The post stated the shooting would happen before 10 p.m. Friday. The threat did not name a specific officer or specific area where a shooting would occur, according to the release.

Jackson County investigators, with help of the SBI, arrested convicted sex offender Derrick Lenart, 39. He was charged with three counts of communicating threats. Deputies reported Lenart was arrested at his apartment across from Western North Carolina without incident.

Lenart has a secured bond of $250,000. His court date is Sept. 17.
