CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — The remains of an 80-year-old man who was reported missing have been found, according to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 31, 2024, Calvin Knotts was last seen walking away from his home on Graybark Road in Midland at about 10 a.m. He was known to often walk through the neighborhood and its wooded areas.
However, Knotts lived with dementia, and when he did not return home, an extensive search was launched.
That search included ground searches on foot, deployment of tracking K9 units, drones, helicopters, and land search teams equipped with specialty utility vehicles, according to deputies.
On December 23, 2024, Knotts’s remains were discovered by a person hunting in the area.
Deputies said his family has been notified, and the cause of death is yet to be determined.
However, foul play or criminal activity is not expected to be involved.
