GASTONIA, N.C. — After announcing the naming-rights partner for its home ballpark early last week, the Gastonia Honey Hunters has revealed more partnerships. Now, the team’s management is barreling toward opening day of its inaugural season.
Honey Hunters owner Brandon Bellamy said Thursday that Gastonia-based GSM Services would sponsor the team’s opening-day festivities and its premium club. In addition to naming rights to the club above home plate, GSM will fund activities surrounding the first game, including a postgame fireworks show.

David Martin, the Honey Hunters’ chief operating officer, provided a look into the team’s plans for its first weekend of games. Those plans include reduced capacity despite the recent lifting of pandemic-related restrictions in North Carolina. The Honey Hunters will cap attendance at 2,000 fans for each game at CaroMont Health Park during the first weekend, which runs May 27-30.
“We want to make sure there is still an opportunity for social distancing and want to still provide an opportunity for fans to feel comfortable and feel safe,” Martin said. “It will also give us an opportunity to iron out the bugs that we all know we are going to experience when opening a new building.”
