CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queen City’s last remaining arthouse cinema will close permanently.

Regal Cinemas and its landlord, Eastern Federation Corp., said in a joint statement Wednesday afternoon that the Regal Manor Twin theater in Myers Park will not reopen. Although acquired by the Knoxville, Tennessee-based movie theater chain in 2008, the Manor continued to show independent films, as well as mainstream features, on its two screens.

The theater opened in 1947 and serves as the anchor tenant of a retail center on Providence Road. The theater and larger center have been speculated as a potential redevelopment target for some time but were previously dismissed as rumors.
