CHARLOTTE — You may want to skip eating that bacon at breakfast – a new study suggests eating red meat could be bad for your brain health.

Those who ate at least one quarter of a serving of processed red meats every day, had a 13 percent higher chance of developing dementia, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Neurology.

A serving is about three ounces, so for example, about two slices of bacon or a hot dog.

Researchers also found having plant-based protein sources as a replacement, lowered the risk of dementia by 19 percent.
