CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Trump National is one of the top golf courses in the Charlotte area, and to no surprise, a lot of people who live there support President Donald Trump.
"Because I think our community has seen nothing but improvement by him,” Alissa Petrozza said.
There are questions about how President Trump bought this course and whether the Russians provided the money to finance the deal.
James Dodson, an author and one of the top golf writers, recalled on CNN a conversation he had in 2013 with Eric Trump, the president's son.
"I remember very clearly what he said. 'We don't need American banks, we have all the funding we need out of Russia,'” Dodson said. “'We have investors there who really love the game of golf.'"
Channel 9 reporter Glenn Counts contacted Dodson by phone, he said there is no question about what he heard.
Eric Trump disputed Dodson in a tweet.
“This story is completely fabricated and just another example of why there is such a deep distrust of the media in our country….#fake news,” Trump said.
Joe Petrozza said he believes the Trumps.
"I don't see why he would need the money from Russia, which is broke, when he's a billionaire,” Petrozza said.
Golfer Nick Pahountis thinks foreign investment is a problem.
"Politicians have let themselves become pawns to money and it's just come to the point where their main concern is lining their pockets,” Pahountis said.
