CONCORD, N.C. — A ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday marked the opening of the Lockhart Child Development Center, a unique solution to a challenge facing many families -- affordable child care.
Collaboration between Cabarrus County, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, the Cabarrus Chamber of Commerce and All Saints’ Episcopal Church has fueled the development of Lockhart’s high-quality model that still fits a budget.
“We want (families) to also have their child in a quality center while they are trying to learn and be a better person in the community,” said Waynett Taylor, the center’s executive director.
About 80 kids are enrolled in the center with plans to add more. Families pay between $200 and $300 a month depending on their child’s age.
“There shouldn’t be any kind of barriers to have quality care for your child,” said Andrew Weston, a father whose kid attends the center.
