CHARLOTTE — Public pools across the Queen City are ready as we head into our first sunny summer weekend.
But with the sunshine comes the crowds, and Mecklenburg County’s Aquatic Department has been preparing for the crowds for months. They began training about 60 lifeguards in March to staff the Double Oaks and Cordelia Pools in Charlotte.
Without the lifeguards, pools across the county would have to cut down on their operating hours.
“We are around 95% staffed,” Michael Johnson from Mecklenburg County Aquatics told Channel 9. “We bring them in and swim test them, and we get them in a lifeguard class, get them trained up on the deck, and then get them out there so they can lifeguard.”
