CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 18,000 people are employed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, 151 of whom make six-figure salaries, according to CBJ research.
Salaries are equal to the annual rate of pay times the full-time equivalency for the time period from March 1, 2018, to March 31, 2019. Bonuses and stipends are not included. From teachers to principals to administrators, the average salary is close to $45,000.
Superintendent Earnest Winston is CMS’ highest-paid employee with an annual pay rate of $288,000. He is followed by general counsel George Battle, who will depart the post at the end of the year for a job at UNC Chapel Hill. Battle’s annual salary at CMS is $229,500.
