Concord group to fight against controversial housing development

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

People living in a Concord neighborhood hope to finally get answers Wednesday night after months of fighting a controversial housing development.

They worry the development will create safety and traffic issues.

Rose Beam and her neighbors have been protective of the pasture they live near on Odell School Road for years.

“It’s just a really peaceful way of life and we want to preserve that,” Beam said.

Concord's planning commission approved rezoning the land for developer Walton International to build 551 homes on it more than double what it was zoned for.

Residents are worried about traffic congestion and are appealing the rezoning approval to the Concord City Council.

The developer said engineers have been tweaking the development plan to address residents' concerns.

The City Council is expected to vote on the proposed plan during its 7 p.m. meeting Wednesday.
