CHARLOTTE — There’s a new, creative approach to help solve Charlotte’s affordable housing crisis, which is expanding.
Patricia Saleem said that she didn’t think she would have an apartment.

After 30 years of experiencing domestic violence, Saleem escaped but couldn’t afford to be on her own.
“I thought it couldn’t get (any) worse,” Saleem said. “That’s how I was feeling.”

A program helped Saleem have a safe, new start.
