Preparations underway a week out from Rev. Graham's funeral

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The body of Rev. Billy Graham will be escorted from Asheville to Charlotte on Saturday so that thousands of mourners can pay their final respects to “America’s Pastor.”

The reverend’s body will lie in repose at the Billy Graham Library on Monday and Tuesday. It will then be flown to the U.S. Capitol to lie in honor on Wednesday.

Rev. Graham’s funeral will be held at the library at noon next Friday and will be attended by more than 2,000 people.

Channel 9 watched Friday and Saturday as workers prepared for the private funeral, and dozens of people have been dropping off flowers and touching notes saying “goodbye” and “thank you” to the reverend who impacted so many worldwide.

The Charlotte area, as well as the nation, will have more opportunities to honor and say goodbye to Rev. Graham over the next few days.

On Saturday, around 11 a.m., his casket will begin a ceremonial departure from The Cove in Asheville. The reverend’s body, in a 10-vehicle motorcade, will travel for three hours to the Billy Graham Library.

There will be numerous spots for the public to watch along the route.

On Monday and Tuesday, Rev. Graham's body will lie in repose at the library, and each day, the public will be able to attend and pay their respects.
