CHARLOTTE — A soon-to-be father is on the mend thanks to his quick-thinking pregnant wife and the training she recently got in a new parent class.

It all started on Dec. 29 around 2 a.m. when Poly Rosalik heard strange noises coming from her husband Kurt.

She could tell he was in trouble and not breathing, so at 8 1/2 months pregnant, she managed to pick him up, put him on the ground, perform CPR, and keep him alive until paramedics arrived.

“To save Kurt’s life, give him a second chance, she’s just a remarkable human,” said the couple’s friend Catherine Napolitano.

Napolitano says doctors told them Kurt Rosalik was without oxygen for at least 12 minutes while his wife tried to save his life. After nine shocks paramedics restarted his heart and got him to the hospital where he was intubated.

Napolitano says she was at the hospital the next morning and wouldn’t wish what she saw on her worst enemy. She says pulling this off while pregnant makes what Poly Rosalik did even more impressive.

“Now seeing her in a different light, as someone who somehow summoned the strength, physical, (and) mental strength to pull something like this off,” she said.

It was later revealed that Kurt Rosalik had a heart attack. He’s now recovering.

“Seeing him in the bed, going from that to now, he is up and walking around,” Napolitano said. “He’s having conversations. He’s joking. His charismatic personality is still there,” she said. “To see him make these strides, in what’s been a little over a week now is remarkable. It’s a miracle.”

Poly Rosalik had learned CPR in a pregnancy class just weeks before her husband’s heart attack.

Now, she wants to help teach that skill to others after seeing firsthand how important it is.

“She’s really determined to make that happen,” Napolitano.

Napolitano started a GoFundMe to help the young family since both Kurt and Poly will miss months of work.
