CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A portion of a major road in South End was shut down for hours Monday morning after a driver crashed into a utility pole, shearing it in half.
The wreck happened right before 3 a.m. on South Boulevard between Remount Road and Atherton Street, near Mac's Speed Shop.

Channel 9 crews at the scene could see one part of the pole in the road and the other suspended by power lines.
Police said the driver was not hurt.
The inbound lanes of South Boulevard were blocked and the power lines were hanging so low that crews had to stop tractor-trailers and reroute them.
Repairs were completed around 8 a.m. and the road was reopened.
