Popular food truck to open first brick-and-mortar restaurant

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Chefs Greg Williams and Jamie Barnes didn’t let getting passed over to appear on Food Network’s “Great Food Truck Race” stand in their way.

The duo launched What the Fries in 2015 and never looked back. Now, they’re ready to build on that venture with a brick-and-mortar location.

“This has been a long time coming. We just outgrew the truck,” Williams says.

Plans call for that 3,420-square-foot location to open in early 2021, following renovations. It will be located at 10707 Park Road in south Charlotte, formerly home to Cici’s Pizza.
