Popular café closes uptown location, cites COVID-19

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another Charlotte staple has closed one of its locations because of the pandemic. Amélie’s French Bakery and Café announced Friday that it was permanently closing its uptown shop, the largest of all its locations.

In a Facebook post, it said like so many other restaurants in uptown, COVID-19 restrictions and businesses adopting a remote working model have impacted the once bustling district, and ultimately its bottom line.

The location’s last day was Sunday.

All other locations will remain open, including NoDa, Park Road and Rock Hill.

Other restaurants that have permanently closed during the pandemic include Queen City Q, Carpe Diem, JJ’s Red Hots (uptown location only), Fitzgerald’s, Upstream and Bill Spoon’s Barbecue.
