CMPD: Man arrested weeks after stabbing sister to death at Charlotte apartment

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a man has been arrested weeks after stabbing his sister to death at an east Charlotte apartment complex.

The stabbing happened just after midnight on Aug. 18 at the Newell Grove Apartments along East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

When officers got to the scene, they said they found 36-year-old Tyra McRae with several stab wounds. MEDIC took her to the hospital, where she died.

Police said 35-year-old Tron McRae, the victim’s brother, was charged in her murder. He was arrested Tuesday in Matairie, Louisiana, by CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and with the assistance of the Charlotte and New Orleans field offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He will be served with a murder warrant and extradited to North Carolina.

Authorities have not said what led up to the stabbing.
