Police: Woman attacked at Charlotte bus stop, kicks, bites man to get away

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman fought off a man who attacked her while she was waiting at a bus stop in southwest Charlotte, according to police.

Trentair Bingham, 27, is charged with kidnapping, assault and sex offense in connection with the attack.

Police said the 21-year-old woman had gotten off work around midnight Tuesday and was waiting at a bus stop along South Tryon Street near Interstate 485 to catch her ride home.

They said that’s when Bingham attacked her and tried to drag her behind some cover.

The woman kicked and bit him before the suspect ran off, according to police.

The assault happened near Whitehall Commons Shopping Center.

“I’m just glad that she’s OK. Like, it’s crazy out there to think the simple things we do every day, someone is watching us,” shopper Ashley Givens said.

Police said the victim flagged down a driver, and officers arrived quickly and were able to arrest Bingham.

“Well, I’m glad she was able to fight back,” a shopper said.

Bingham, who is from the Tampa, Florida area, is at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

He’s scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

“She was brave. She was very brave,” Givens said. “I’m glad she fought back and made him understand you can’t do this to people.”
