Police warn residents after skimmer found in Matthews, Indian Trail

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Authorities are trying to track down a man who put skimmers on ATMs in Matthews and Indian Trail.

The Matthews Communications Center received a call around 4:30 p.m. Saturday about the possible discovery of an ATM skimmer at First Citizens Bank on Matthews Township Parkway.

Officers determined that it was a skimmer, removed it, collected it as evidence.

Police reviewed the bank security cameras and determined the suspect attached the skimmer that same day around 7 a.m.

The suspect is a white man, driving a silver Chrysler Town and Country van with an unknown white decal on the left rear corner window.

Authorities said a man fitting the same description installed a skimmer the same day at the First Citizen’s Bank on N. Indian Trail Road in Indian Trail.

Police are asking anyone who conducted an ATM transaction at the Matthews location, and have had discrepancies with their account to notify the bank immediately and also call the Matthews Police Department at 704-847-5555 to file a report. Anyone who can identify the suspect should call that same number.

Anyone who used the bank in Indian Trail should also notify the bank and call the Union County Sheriff’s Office at 704-283-3789 to file a report.
