Police say man exposed himself to group of kids, tried kidnapping one

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after a scary experience for a group of children in east Charlotte.

A police report says a man exposed himself to the kids and tried to kidnap one of them Wednesday evening along Village Green Drive. Channel 9 anchor Paul Boyd spoke with one of the victims, with her mother’s permission.

A 4-year-old boy, two 10-year-old girls and an 11-year-old girl were all there at the time of the incident around 8 p.m., according to the report.

“I was nervous,” the 11-year-old girl said. “I was shaking. I was really shaking, like this. When I’m nervous, I shake or when I’m mad or scared, I shake, and I just felt very uncomfortable.”

She said the man made disgusting comments and gestures.

“He pointed to his private part,” the girl said.

The group quickly walked away from the man.

“He kept following us and he chased us," the girls said.

The girl was the oldest in the group and looked for an adult for help.

“I was scared that he was going to try to grab one of us or something, and we would not be able to fight back, and something could’ve happened,” the girl said.

Police said the man tried to kidnap the 4-year-old boy, but his sister pulled him away from the perpetrator.

An adult called police and the man fled.

Police only had a vague suspect description.

No other details have been released.
