CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman was struck by two cars and killed while waiting for a tow truck in southwest Charlotte early Saturday morning.
Police said several drivers reported a body in the road around 3:45 a.m.
Breondra Rychelle Newman, 22, was found dead in the right northbound lane of South Tryon Street near John Price Road, officers said.
“It’s always busy, like all the time,” said Forrest Floyd, who lives nearby.
Investigators said both drivers remained at the scene and that speed and alcohol use were not factors.

Officers said a short time prior to Newman being struck, she walked back and forth to a convenience store as police waited for a wrecker to remove her disabled car from the roadway on Westinghouse Boulevard.
When the car was towed away, police said that’s when they received the call about the person down on the road.
“My condolences goes out to the family,” Floyd said. “Be more cautious. It could be your child, your mother, your father. Be more aware.”
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said it is reviewing all body-worn camera and surveillance video footage available of the area to ensure that the officers’ actions were consistent with policy.
Witnesses in the area said Newman appeared to have been impaired.
Officials had both lanes closed as police investigated the scene. The road has since reopened.
Witnesses are asked to contact Detective Steve Williams at 704-432-2169.
This is the second pedestrian death of the new year.
A 19-year-old man was hit by several cars and killed on North Tryon Street near Mallard Creek Church Road early in the morning on New Year's Day.
Last year, almost 70 percent of voters approved $118 million in transportation bonds to fund projects for sidewalks, crossings, bike lanes and signals.
A $55 million neighborhood improvement bond was also approved, which included projects to make roads safer for pedestrians.
