CHARLOTTE — Balloons and flowers mark the spot where a 3-year-old boy was killed while riding in the car with his mother.

Detectives said Chantee Boyd, 26, was driving drunk and speeding when she lost control of her car and collided with another vehicle on Billy Graham Parkway early Sunday morning. Boyd's 7-year-old son was also in the car. He was seriously hurt.

On Tuesday, Boyd will face a judge on charges stemming from the crash. She is charged with felony death by vehicle.

Channel 9 learned this is not Boyd's first run-in with the law.

According to the Polkton Police Department, Boyd was arrested in November 2014 after she visited an inmate at Lanesboro Correctional Institution, in Anson County. Police said Boyd smuggled nearly 32 grams of marijuana into prison.

They said as she was saying goodbye, Boyd slipped the drugs to the inmate.

Authorities said they found the drugs, which were in baggies, immediately upon searching the inmate.

Boyd was arrested days later in Charlotte on three felony drug charges, including providing drugs to an inmate. She is due in court in Anson County next month for those charges.
