CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested and charged a suspect after a man was stabbed to death in a South End gas station parking lot early Saturday morning.

Police said they have charged 55-year-old Richard Bernard Grier with the murder of 32-year-old Andrew Tyrelle Allen.

The stabbing happened just before 2 a.m. at a Shell Gas Station on East Boulevard.

Officials said when officers arrived at the gas station, they found Allen suffering from multiple stab wounds in the parking lot.

MEDIC took Allen to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

CMPD said they are not looking for any other suspects at this time.

Police have not said what led up to the stabbing, but employees told Channel 9's Briana Harper it started with an argument inside the store that escalated outside.

Neighbors who live nearby said they are glad police caught the suspect, but added this type of crime at night is alarming.

"The time kind of caught me off guard too because at the time, a lot of the bars are closing so you do have a lot of people who are traveling from uptown back to their dwelling so my main thing was to make sure others weren't caught up in that drama," neighbor Bernard Nelson said.

Grier will make his first court appearance on Monday.
