Police said the victim, who is a concealed weapons permit holder, got his handgun from his vehicle.
Rock Hill Police said the suspect 19-year-old Maurice Hunt was staying at the home, and was allegedly kicked out just before the incident.
"The people basically made him leave, and that set him off into a tirade, and that's when our victim got his handgun because he wasn't sure what this young man was gonna do," police said.
Officials said Hunt then struck the victim in the back of the head and knocked him down.
According to police, Hunt took the man’s gun and fired several shots at him before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Police said the victim was not hit.
Neighbors said they heard the gunfire outside the house in the middle of the afternoon.

Officers responded to the scene and said saw Hunt walking down the street and when they got out of the patrol car, he started running.
Police said after a short foot chase, he was taken into custody. Officials said when he was caught by police, he still had a loaded gun on him.
