GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gaston County woman says her ex-boyfriend waited under her bed and planned to kill her before ending his own life.
Thursday, he is locked up and charged with a long list of crimes.
Channel 9 spoke with the victim today to find out how she was able to escape.
The woman said she is still scared of Dorman Potter, who was once her live-in boyfriend.
She said she decided to end the relationship when he became suicidal.
She believes he broke into her house and hid under her bed waiting for the opportunity to kill her, then himself.
Potter told the judge he didn’t do it.
“I’m innocent. I have not touched that woman,” he said.
His family came to court Thursday to support him.
“He has never hurt anybody. He wouldn’t hurt anyone at all,” said Potter’s daughter, Marla Davis.
His ex-girlfriend showed Eyewitness News the marks on her neck.
She said Potter scratched her when he ambushed her at her home and tried to kill her, and it all started when she broke up with Potter almost two weeks ago.
Police charged Potter with threatening to kill her and her 12-year-old son.
However, she said two days ago, she heard a thump in her bedroom and found Potter hiding under her bed.
She said Potter jumped out and grabbed her by the throat, but a male friend who was there with her pulled Potter off of her and he ran away.
Eyewitness News checked Potter’s criminal records in Gaston County, but could not find prior violent charges.
The DA said he is going to push to have Potter indicted by a grand jury as soon as possible.
