3 people charged after man found shot to death inside south Charlotte hotel room

CHARLOTTE — Police have charged three people after a man was found shot to death inside a hotel room in south Charlotte early Saturday morning.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. on Westpark Drive, which is near Tyvola Road and Interstate 77.

Officers said they were on Westpark Drive for an unrelated call when they heard a shot being fired in the area. As they started to investigate, they found 31-year-old Dean Varian with a gunshot wound in a hotel room.

Varian was taken to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

Police charged Alicia Thrower, 25, Kheelen Stockdale, 21 and a 16-year-old with first-degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Detectives have not said what led to the shooting at this point.
