CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after two groups exchanged gunfire near a daycare in Steele Creek Friday afternoon.
Officers were called to the scene at 2:45 p.m. on West Arrowood Road after receiving reports of someone shooting.
Police said Isaiah Kersey, 20, went to pick up his son from the daycare but was not on the list of approved people allowed to pick him up. Employees called the child’s mother and she came a short time later.
Officials said Kersey had two men with him and the child’s mother arrived with three other men with her. The two groups began to argue, which turned physical, and two people from each group began shooting, according to police.
The daycare went into lockdown and said all the children were inside. No one was hurt in the shooting, but authorities said an employee fell and hurt her arm while running from the gunfire.
Officers said two vehicles parked in the parking lot were hit by bullets but no one was in them at the time.
Police have seized one firearm and arrested Kersey. He was charged with simple affray and resist/obstruct/delay.
No other details have been released at this point.
