CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers said they identified three suspects who have been terrorizing businesses across Charlotte.

Police said they have arrested 21-year-old Kylvin Jones, 26-year-old Demondre Smith and 18-year-old Gerrell Hart-Smith for their connection to a string of armed robberies over the last several weeks.

Police released the following list of robberies:

  • May 13 at 1:15 a.m.: Two male suspects robbed the Circle K on Harris Station Boulevard at gunpoint
  • May 22 at 12:42 a.m.: Two men robbed the 7-Eleven on Monroe Road at gunpoint
  • May 27 at 9:31 a.m.: A man armed with a handgun tried to rob the 7-Eleven located on Tuckaseegee Road
  • May 28 at 11:30 p.m.: Two armed men robbed the Circle K located on Central Avenue
  • May 29 at 9:17 p.m.: Two male suspects robbed an Auto Zone on South Boulevard at gunpoint
  • May 29 at 10 a.m.: Two male suspects robbed the Walgreens on Albemarle Road; at least one was armed with a handgun
  • June 4 at 12:40 a.m.: Two male suspects armed with a handgun robbed the Circle K on Harris Station Boulevard
  • June 4 at 2:18 a.m.: Three male suspects armed with handguns robbed an Express Mart on Nations Ford Road; one person was injured during the robbery

Police said Jones and Hart-Smith were identified as suspects in all of the above eight cases. They said Smith is a suspect in all of the robberies as well, except the robbery of the 7-Eleven on May 27.

Earlier this week, police warned businesses about the crime spree.

CMPD Sgt. Brian Scharf from the robbery unit acknowledged the danger and urged clerks to hand over the money, don't resist and be a good witness.

"It's not your money,” Scharf said. “We don't want anybody fighting with robbery suspects. They are there just for the money. Give them what they want and move on. One other big thing is don't make any sudden movements."

Scharf said the last point is important because most robbery suspects are more nervous than the people they are robbing.

Police said clerks should not give them an excuse to make a mistake.

Detectives are still investigating these robberies and whether any others are connected.
