Paramedics responded to the Regal Inn on Equipment Drive, near Interstate 85, around 4 a.m. and found the victim inside a room, suffering from a gunshot wound to her arm.
She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center but she should be OK, police said.
Investigators said the woman told them that she was shot by someone she did not know and said she did not know why she was shot.
Officers have not released any further information about what led to the shooting or released a suspect description.
The shooting happened in the same area that has seen a lot of violent crime, something police are working to slow down.
