CMPD identify man shot to death in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in north Charlotte early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the 2700 block of Botany Street around 4:40 a.m. and found 23-year-old Jamarcus Walker suffering from a gunshot wound in a backyard.

Paramedics pronounced Walker dead on the scene.

CMPD Capt. Jonathan Thomas told Channel 9 that Walker was in a vehicle when another vehicle pulled up alongside it and someone inside started shooting.

Walker then got out and ran to a nearby yard on Botany Street where he collapsed.

Police could not say if gunfire was exchanged from Walker's car.

The suspect vehicle sped off and police have not released a description of it.

Officers are trying to determine if the incident was part of an ongoing feud and could not say if the victim lived in the area.

Police told Channel 9 that the shooter is not in custody.
