Police: Suspect called 911 after shooting man to death in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police in Rock Hill said a man is behind bars after he shot and killed another man Wednesday morning.

The police department tweeted just after 8 a.m. that they were conducting a homicide investigation along Ligon Drive, off Celanese Road near Interstate 77.

Channel 9 South Carolina reporter Greg Suskin learned that a man was shot death and his body was found on the roadside, behind several businesses.

According to detectives, Nathan Thomas called 911 just after 5:30 a.m. and said someone had been shot. Police said Thomas identified himself as the suspect in the shooting.

When officers got to the scene they found the 25-year-old victim near the roadway with a fatal gunshot wound. His name has not been released.

Thomas, 33, told police he was in a car stopped on Mount Gallant Road and he was quickly taken into custody. He has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and grand larceny auto.

He will have a bond hearing on Thursday.

The road was shut down for hours while authorities investigated. No other information has been released.
