Arrest made days after man found dead, another hurt in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Police are investigating a homicide in Kannapolis after a man was found dead and another was hurt Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the scene at around 8:40 a.m. on Wightman Oaks Court.

Authorities said David Duy-Anh Pham Nguyen, 50, of Charlotte, died at the scene. Dornell Thomas, 46, of Ohio, was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

On Friday, police said they had arrested 26-year-old Malik Kahlil Crawford, of Charlotte, and charged him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He is in the Cabarrus County Jail under no bond.

Police are still looking for a minivan that belonged to Thomas that was stolen during the crime. The van is a white Honda Odyssey with Ohio registration plate JKB-4864.
