CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police identified the person who was killed in an early Monday morning crash in west Charlotte.
Investigators said they determined that a 1995 Acura, driven by Jesse Vernon Wells, was traveling on Little Rock Road toward Freedom Drive, when the car hit a raised curb and Wells lost control of the vehicle.
The Acura hit the driver's side of a Honda SUV that was traveling in the opposite direction, police said. The Honda SUV was driven by Tanya Clawson.
The wreck caused both directions of Little Rock Road to be shut down during the morning rush hour.
Well died at the scene. Clawson and a passenger in her vehicle were taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Huntersville with minor injuries.
Police said it's not clear if speed was a factor in the crash.
Alcohol or drug use are not factors for the driver in the Honda, but it is unknown if that's the case for the driver of the Acura, according to investigators.
The crash remains under investigation.
