BELMONT, N.C. — Police arrested two people Monday who they said stole from women at a Walmart in Belmont and said they are looking into whether the suspects also burglarized another woman at the Lowe's store next door.

Ernie Burns and Tessla Rose face a number of charges for crimes that were reported Saturday inside at Walmart.

The pair stole purses from two women at Walmart within minutes of one another, according to police. One victim told police that Burns distracted her while Rose snatched the bag.

Patsy Baker said someone stole her purse Wednesday out of her shopping cart while she was at Lowe's next door to Walmart.

Baker said she stopped to talk with friends, and didn't realize her bag had been taken until she was about to pay.

“It’s terrible. You feel like you’ve been violated,” Baker said. “My husband don’t even get in my purse.”

Police are investigating whether Burns and Rose are behind Baker’s purse snatching incident.

"She noticed one other was in the aisle with her besides him, and then her purse was missing," Belmont police Lt. Corky Falls said.

Police said Rose tried to use a debit card belonging to one of the victims in Lowell. Police posted video on Facebook of the failed attempt.

The video from Lowell and a description of the suspects led to their arrests, according to police. They said that the two could face more charges.
