STATESVILLE, N.C. — Police were on the scene of a fatal crash Friday on Highway 21 just west of Interstate 77 in Statesville.
The crash happened at 11:50 a.m. when an SUV rear-ended a tractor-trailer at a light.
Troopers said the driver of the SUV, Michael Chambers, 65, was not paying attention before he crashed and was killed. They believe he was speeding at the time.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
