ROCK HILL, S.C. — The Rock Hill Police Department has charged a 16-year-old with the murder of two people who were found shot in a car last week.

Sam Saadiq Robinson is being charged as an adult and faced a judge Monday afternoon for an extradition hearing in Charlotte.

Flowers were seen by Channel 9 crews Monday in the place where police said the two victims were shot and killed six days ago by someone they knew.

Capt. Mark Bollinger couldn't say how Robinson knew the two victims, 20-year-old Zuinquarius McCrorey and 23-year-old Malik McCullough, or what his motive may have been.

“I found out today that Mr. Robinson was one of the persons we were looking at last week,” said Bollinger.

Bollinger said Robinson lives in Rock Hill, perhaps not far from where the shooting occurred, and took off for Charlotte, where police found and arrested him late Friday.

Channel 9 visited an address in Steele Creek that was listed as Robinson's home in court records, but no one answered the door.

In Rock Hill, Channel 9 observed white wreaths hanging on the door of one of the victim’s homes.

“At this point, we don't know a motive. We have a couple of theories, but there's not enough to pin down one of them,” said Bollinger.

Police were called to the scene after 1:30 p.m. Feb. 26 after a white Chevrolet Impala hit a fence. Officers said they found McCorey and McCullough shot to death inside the vehicle.

Channel 9 crews were at the scene along South Jones Avenue at Chestnut Street, where police roped off the area and emergency personnel responded.

Neighbors said they heard a boom, like a car accident, and called 911. They said they had no idea what really happened until Channel 9 crews told them.

“I guess it's just the times that we live in, which is sad," neighbor Sheena Branch said.

Rock Hill police said they had K-9s one block away, searching for a possible suspect.

“We're focused right here in the immediate scene, because literally, like you said, you were on top of this when this happened, so you know how fresh this actually is," said Rock Hill police Lt. Michael Chavis.

Neighbors said they are still wondering why the crime happened.

"I’m praying for their families. I know it's gonna be hard and not easy, and I hope they get justice for what's happened,” said Branch.

Earlier last week, on the same street, neighbors said they were grilling when someone drove by and fired shots at them.

Nobody was hurt, and police couldn't say whether the incidents were connected.

Rock Hill police said they worked with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to locate Robinson at a home. They are hoping to learn more when Robinson gets back to Rock Hill, and they have a chance to question him.
