CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An Ardrey Kell High School student was caught with a stolen gun in a vehicle in west Charlotte, according to police.
Patrick Harrington Cannon, 18, the son of former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Deangelo Cannon, is charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and resist delay, obstruct.
Police said they were called Sunday around 4 p.m. to an apartment complex on Leake Street for a report of a man with a gun.
The caller said the man had assaulted someone from his church earlier that day and had returned to the area, according to police.

When officers arrived, they said the caller pointed to Patrick Harrington Cannon and said he had a gun in the vehicle. Police said Cannon lied about his name and birthdate.
While officers were speaking with him, his father showed up, saying he owned the vehicle and gave his son’s real name, according to police.
Police said they found a gun, which had been stolen from Gastonia, under the driver’s seat. They said they also found a gun in the trunk.
Patrick Harrington Cannon was charged and released to the custody of his father, Patrick Deangelo Cannon, whose driver’s license was included in the arrest paperwork.

Patrick Deangelo Cannon resigned as mayor in 2014 and pleaded guilty to accepting tens of thousands of dollars in bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen. He served nearly two years in federal prison and was released in 2016.
